Biography

I started climbing at the age of six at a community recreation centre in Calgary and immediately fell in love. I started on my first team at the age of seven and began competing that year. Since my first time climbing, I’ve never turned back. I love the combination of problem-solving, strength, skill, and mental control this sport requires but also the supportive, welcoming, and uplifting community climbing brings with it. What began as a simple hobby turned into my expression of creativity, passion, and competitiveness. As I began to grow as an athlete, I began to shape my goals and aspirations for climbing which brought drive and motivation. I use climbing as a way to push my own limits and challenge myself. Over the years, I have competed at local, regional, national, and international competitions including Nationals, North America Cups, World Cups, and a Pan American Cup. This year, I am pursuing my climbing goals alongside studying Kinesiology in my first year of University at UBC in Vancouver.

In their words

How did you get into climbing?

I was a very active and rambunctious child, always climbing the counters, chains, and really anything I could get my hands on. Therefore, it was no surprise that I love climbing. I owe my climbing success to my first coaches, who saw my potential from day one and challenged me to work hard every single day. Brooke Raboutou has always been an inspiration throughout my climbing journey. Not only do we share a name, but we are also both short. She redefines the boundaries of what smaller female climbers are capable of, and has motivated me when I feel incapable.

What do you enjoy doing outside of training?

I love to go skiing and snowboarding in the winter and hiking, backpacking, biking, running, and kayaking in the summer. Cooking, baking, watching movies with friends and family, and planning my next outdoor adventure are some of my favourite rest-day activities. I also like to watch World Cups and cheer for my favourite athletes.

What drives you to compete and excel in climbing?

I have always been quite a competitive person, always pushing myself to be the best I can be at everything. I remember thinking to myself that I wanted to go to the Olympics one day, and, while it may be ambitious, I still share that same dream with little Brooke today. I work hard to prove to myself that I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to and that no goal is ever too far to reach. I show up consistently because climbing is genuinely what I love doing and allows me to escape stress.
