Climbing Escalade Canada is committed to creating a welcoming environment for participants from all backgrounds and experiences. The CEC Diversity & Inclusion Committee shares resources and programs to support that goal across the climbing community.
Who is climbing?
CEC’s demographic survey, “Who is Climbing? Understanding Participants within Climbing Escalade Canada,” looked at who takes part in climbing in Canada, and what motivates people to participate or holds them back. Its findings guide CEC’s work to remove barriers to participation.
The findings report is available in Resources.
Land acknowledgements
Land acknowledgements recognize the traditional First Nations, Métis, and Inuit territories of a place. They can be spoken or visual, from signage to a simple greeting at the start of an event, and help Canadians recognize and respect Indigenous peoples’ relationship with the land.
A land acknowledgement should be meaningful, not something done because it has to be. Research and education are essential to writing one well. The Diversity & Inclusion Committee has prepared a Land Acknowledgement Template to help the community; it is available in Resources.
