Guy McNamee
I started climbing when I was nine, after my parents brought me to a gym. I instantly fell in love with the feeling of moving on the wall. I competed in my first comp when I was ten and have never stopped. Since then, I’ve competed across Canada and internationally, earning eight national titles, a North American Championship win, and a Youth Pan American Championship title.
Outside of training and competing, I coach a competitive youth team which I love because I get to help younger climbers discover the same joy and drive that still excites me. Climbing has shaped most of my life, and I’m excited to keep pushing myself and seeing where it takes me next.
How I got into climbing

What drives me to compete
I love testing myself at the highest level of sport. It’s amazing seeing the hours of training all lead to one point and when you can perform to your best, it’s an amazing feeling. I want to leave my competition climber career with no question left unanswered. No what ifs or if only I had done that. I want to go all out while still be true to myself.
Outside of training
Outside of training, I like to keep things pretty balanced. I write a bit, mostly for fun, and I also coach, which takes up a good chunk of my time in a way I enjoy. When I’m not doing that, I’m usually watching a new TV show or hanging out with friends.
